Getting at the truthPublished: February 28, 2013
Did I miss something or is there a secret crisis only known to the oil companies?
If the cost of anything else rose at the rate gas has in the last month the president would have a community or a commission investigating the reasons why by now.
We have seen nothing from Washington, what's up with that? I asked the manager at the station where I buy gas if he had any insight, he said that he doesn't have a clue.
All he knows is when he gets a phone call he raises the price, "lately he been getting a lot of phone calls." It's one thing to raise the price 1 or 2 cents at a time, but now its 10 cents at a time week after week.
This looks to be one big rip off and nobody is lifting a finger to stop it. It's been in the news lately that this country has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia yet we haven't built a new refinery in 30 years.
Lots of gasoline is being exported from this country everyday so supply is not the problem or the cause of the increase, so what's the problem? You can't use the excuse that your switching over from summer grade to winter grade anymore.
I think oil companies are just about out of excuses this time and its time we consumers get answers. All I know is if we got all this oil and we can export all this gas, we should not be paying $4 a gallon.

Time for team
After reading Feb. 17th Hernando Today front page article about the raises for our assistant county administrators, I am concerned that we are losing the team concept of our Hernando County unionized workers.
Make no mistake I am not against any of the assistant county administrators getting a raise. In fact I think it is good idea to grant them all raises. I don't blame John Sholtes the Business Agent for Union Local 79 for being upset either.
We can't say we don't have money for raises for the rank and file employees then grant raises to exempt employees who are not unionized.
It breaks the spirit of our work force when we are less than truthful about monetary policies. As a resident and taxpayer in Hernando County, I would have no problem paying more taxes to grant all of our employees well deserved raises.
In fact as Union Steward Chris Soto is quoted in the article, "Everyone's been asked to do a lot more than we did in 2005. To focus on just four people is not right."
I suggest we get to the bargaining table and negotiate in good faith for our unionized employees.

The drones
Terrorist Al Qaeda leaders should be eliminated whether by drone or otherwise and even if the terrorist is a U.S. citizen.
Unfortunately, certain poorly informed people in congress are against eliminating Al Qaeda leadership by drone strikes and want to bring these radical terrorist leaders to the U.S .for a trial in our courts. Bad decision.
These people do not fully understand that Al Qaeda is in a war with us and they are determined to destroy us for the sake of their radical religious beliefs and our willing to die for beliefs.
We must fight back vigorously otherwise they will win and destroy our way of life. The CIA must be free to do whatever is necessary to eliminate Al Qaeda leadership in order to bring down Al Qaeda.
The CIA must be kept in control of the operation of the drones and not passed onto any other government agency. If control of the drones is passed onto another agency the secrecy of using the drones will be lost to the news media and our enemy will become aware of drone strikes before it happens. The government does not have a good record in fact it has a bad record of keeping matters secret.
Please write and tell your legislators in Washington to support keeping the CIA in control of drones and keeping it secret from Al Qaeda. I know you care and love this country.
