Fed Up With Fat Cats

Re: “Alexander Seeks 14 Percent Raise” in the April 29 edition of Hernando Today.

Were the others reading this article as outraged as I was in the audacity of Mr. Alexander's request for an increase to his already outrageous salary? His greed and conceit as to his abilities absolutely amazed me. I am so tired of employees in Hernando County referring to other cities/municipalities, etc. whose counterparts make more than they do, so ergo, they should make the same or more.
Hernando County is suffering, as are many areas in Florida and the nation, from high taxes, insurance rates, food, gas, utilities, etc. Unfortunately, the vast majority of our population cannot meet the rising costs of living and are losing their homes, cutting back on even basic items, let alone any luxuries, and even doing without necessary medicines and health care.
In these shaky financial times, most people who have jobs are happy just to be working. The unemployment rate has been steadily rising. I don't care how good a job he thinks he's doing, in my opinion, he is overpaid to begin with. People in Hernando County are fed up with all the fat cats on the county payroll. And where did the policy come from to reimburse any employee, especially part time less than 40 hours a week, for education courses? Mr. Kingsley is another example of an avaricious government official. Doesn't he make enough at his part-time commissioner's job to afford to pay for his own educational endeavors? No one is against education, only giving someone a free ride that doesn't merit it.
I think the citizens of Hernando County are completely fed up with the overspending ways of those in charge of local government and want these type of practices to come to an end. Our new county administrator already seems to be grasping the numerous problems we have here and appears to be trying to right the wrongs he's encountering. Let's hope he continues on the same path.
Come election time, the citizens will have their chance to also right some wrongs.
